Families

The family photos I cherish are the ones that tell stories and pull me into feel-good memories—images full of personality, emotion, and connection. This is what I want for you. Here’s how we do it:

  1. Learning your story. In order to make the most of our time together, I need to know your story before the camera comes out. Answering some questions prior to your session will allow me to personalize your experience and create art that is authentic and meaningful to you.
  2. Meeting you where you are.  When kids are involved, it’s all about going with the flow! At the start of your session, the first thing we’ll do is get a feel for everyone’s mood and energy. Wherever you’re at that day is okay! I’ll adjust my approach accordingly and strive to create a warm and supportive space so you feel comfortable enough to relax, let down your guard, and enjoy the time with your family. There’s no need to perform or censor. Just being you is enough.
  3. A feel-good experience. Once the session begins, I’ll be guiding and directing you through different interactions with the intention of creating genuine, feel-good moments. Play, laughter, and physical affection are at the heart of my sessions but I also love watching little ones explore, discover, and get lost in their own little worlds. When I see a moment unfolding, I’ll step back and let it happen, so I can capture all the beauty I see there. If the kiddos start to melt, no worries! We can take a break or switch things up whenever they need it. It helps to remember that without the challenging moments, we wouldn’t have those sweet moments of comfort that follow!

The Details:

Who: I’m best suited for laid-back families who are playful, affectionate, and comfortable letting kids be kids.

Where: Location is something we'll decide on together. I primarily work outdoors and a scenic, natural area is my preference but if there’s a specific location that’s meaningful to you, I’m all ears! I also love a cozy, in-home session when there's enough window light. (Please note: you do not need a Pinterest-perfect home for an in-home session!)

When: For outdoor sessions, golden hour offers the most flattering light (the period shortly after sunrise and shortly before sunset). For in-home sessions, the timing simply depends on when there’s enough light coming through those windows, which I will help you determine. The actual session will last around 60--90 minutes (flexible session times allow for breaks if the little ones need it and ensure you never feel rushed).

What’s most important to me is your happiness! If we start a conversation and I believe you would be better served by another photographer, I will absolutely tell you. Here are a few signs I might not be the right photographer for you:

  • You're interested in a large or extended-family session. My personality and photography style are best suited to small, intimate groups so I limit my sessions to five family members.
  • You’re looking for a more traditional portrait session with everyone posed and smiling at the camera.
  • You want to be in and out as quickly as possible. My sessions are intentionally slower-paced, giving us time to connect, settle in, and let genuine moments unfold.
