My Why

Photography is my way of bringing attention to the good I see within us and around us. It’s a means of connecting and uplifting that fills me up and brings me joy.

As a documentary and lifestyle photographer, I’m given the unique opportunity to step into someone else’s world, learn their story, and share an intimate experience. Maybe it’s a family outing with the kiddos, or maybe it’s the day you say, "I do." Regardless of the situation, it’s a gift to be a part of it, and, in return, this is what I will strive to offer you…

  • An uplifting experience that leaves you feeling seen, heard, and valued.
  • A collection of artistic images that tells your unique story and shines a light on the beauty I see in your world and in you. Not the surface-level, smile-for-the-camera you, but the caught-up-in-the-moment, let-down-your-guard, authentic you.

If this resonates, I’m happy to share a few more things about me that shape my work and may help you decide if we’re the right fit.

"The world is full of magical things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.”

WB Yeats

A little more about me...

  • I live in Rockford, Michigan, so the Greater Grand Rapids area is my home base. However, I also love to travel! My incredibly talented partner converted an empty Sprinter Van into a home on wheels and we’re always looking for an excuse to explore a new place or revisit an old favorite. So if you’re interested in a session outside of the Greater Grand Rapids area, please don't hesitate to reach out!
  • Nature is my happy place. I’m in awe of the beauty and magic I find there. It lights me up and nourishes my soul. It’s also my preferred setting for creating art. A scenic background, the warm glow of golden hour light, and all the feel-good vibes that come with time outdoors—it’s a combination that's endlessly inspiring.
  • I’m all about keeping the childhood portal open. Curiosity and wonder, laughter and playfulness, creativity and imagination, movement and touch. When I lean into these defining characteristics of childhood, they bring me back to the truest version of myself and reconnect me to the joy found in small things. These same characteristics also shape my approach to photography. They help me bring you into the moment and back to yourself. They allow me to create authentic imagery that is uplifting, artistic, and meaningful.
  • I’m an introvert that loves people. I thrive in small groups—settings that allow for personal interactions and connection. Respecting my own social limits helps me show up fully and ensure the quality of my work, which is why I specialize in couples, small families, intimate weddings (up to 50 guests), and elopements.
  • I primarily use natural light for my photography, and I’m a morning person who crashes hard after dark! This means my photography window opens shortly after sunrise and closes just before sunset (no nightlife sessions for me). The need for sunlight also means I primarily work outdoors. However, I will absolutely take a cozy, in-home session when there’s enough window light.
  • I’m endlessly curious about people and their stories, and I crave interactions that allow me to truly know and understand a person. Fortunately, photography gives me an excuse to skip the small talk and get right to the good stuff! If we decide to work together, asking some questions and getting to know you prior to your session will help me personalize the experience and establish a connection, so when the camera comes out, you’re comfortable, relaxed, and authentically, beautifully you.
